Brahmas Sweep Renegades

Well Brahma fans, the boys are on a roll as we swept the Renegades this weekend taking the team to 9-5.

Both our goalies proved their merit with outstanding performances in net while the rest of the boys found the back of the net with purpose.

Friday's game was closer than we wanted but we pulled out a 2-1 win with Fadi Hurtubise in net stopping 29 shots and goals from Albert Bolush and Oscar Plechawski.

Saturday brought goals from 5 different Brahmas, proving we have the depth we need to take us to the playoff's and beyond. Anton Olsson made 28 saves only letting two slip past. Tyler Baumannis. Albert Bolush, Kevin Filthaut, Kevin ODonnell, and a hat trick from Ryan Pittman made this one 9-2. The win was bitter sweet though as we lost Oscar Plechawski to a seperated shoulder for the season.

Sunday the boys showed off their offensive prowess again with goals from 8 different players. Fadi Hurtubise was in net making 31 saves. Goals came from Cole Davis, Kevin Filthaut, Curtis Kort, Hassan Makke, Kevin ODonnell, Ryan Pittman, Vincent Pratt, and a hat trick from Albert Bolush made this one a 10-3 victory.

Successful week at Nationals for WSHL

From The League Commissioner:

I am pleased to report that during the round robin games at the National Championship Tournament and the National Best of the Rest Showcase the WSHL teams had a win/loss record of 9-1-2; almost a clean sweep during.

Both Conference Champions, the El Paso Rhinos and the Idaho Jr. Steelheads finished number 1 in their flights going 2-01 by defeating some excellent hockey teams.  Both WSHL teams kept getting better each game, and both teams completed their round robin sweep by defeating their opponent by a wide margin.  Idaho soundly defeated  the 2010 National Champion St. Louis Jr. Blues, and El Paso took it to the Chicago Hitman.   Both of our teams advance to the Semi Final round today of the National Championship Tournament.  Unfortunately, they will play each other in the semi-final bame, but on the positive side, we will definitely have a team in the Championship Game.  It will be a tough day sitting in the stands watching two great teams decide who will represent the WSHL in the final game.  Congrats to both teams for a terrific showing of their competitive skill and class both on and off the ice.

Our two Best of the Rest Teams proved a point at the National Tournament.  Not only do we have two of the top four teams competing for the National Championship Game, but we had the top two teams in the BOR tournament.  Our Veteran Age Out team swept their flight going 3-0-0 by defeating their third opponent in the third game in overtime.  Our Returning Players team went 2-1-0, narrowly loosing the second game but coming back in the third game hard and fast spanking their opponent.

All four teams of the WSHL showed terrific class on and off the ice.  The coaches and managers have all done a great job in preparing the teams.

The BOR teams went into Minnesota early and were hosted at St. Mary's University with practice ice, and college screening and informational seminars.  We were able to practice 3 times prior to our first game which had a huge impact on our results.  In the Thursday WSHL scrimmage game Age Outs vs. Returning Playes, the game went to a shoot out with the Age Outs taking the bragging rights.  We knew we had two very good teams at that point.  I would like to thank the coaches and managers that traveled with the teams:
  • Age Out:  Coaches Jeremy Law , Jeff Heimel, Manager Bruce Miller
  • Returning: Coaches Bryce Dale, J. F. Picard, Manager Scott Allegrini
  • Deputy Commissioner Bob Armando was BOR General Manager
Lastly, a member of the staff that we couldn't have done without, we were fortunate that equipment manager Carl Poole (Boulder Bison) met us in Minneapolis and supervised the teams locker rooms and equipment for the week.

This has likely been the best 3 days in WSHL History and more to come.

Cordially,

Ron

Brahmas Take Down Rhino's in Home Opener

The Brahmas took down the Rhino's in the home opener toinght in what was a low scoring high shooting event.

The first period was scoreless and the second looked to be the same until the last minute when Cole Fletcher who had just come flying out of the penalty box pushed on past the goalie to take a 1-0 lead into the room.

The third period was more eventful with goals from O'Donnell and Kort and a house rocking fight from Cole Davis.

Anton Olsson stopped 55 shots for the shutout. WAY TO GO ANTON!

Brahmas Loose More Than Game

Well Brahma fans, today's game did not go as well as the opener. In what turned out to be a long afternoon, the Brahmas fell to the Rhino's 8-1.

The score was not the worst of it as we also went down 2 more players. Cole Fletcher suffered a moderate concussion after a nasty elbow to the head behind the play that went uncalled. Only minutes later Anthony Vargas came out of the game with a hip injury.

Our injury woes are mounting and tomorrow mornings gme will be a tough one. Stay tuned Brahmas fans....

Brahmas Finish Weekend 1-2

After a long tough weekend the Brahmas are looking to regroup and get healthy. There were a total of 7 injuries this weekend that hampered their efforts to rally in today's final game with El Paso.

The Team faces Tulsa in a 2 game series next weekend.

Brahmas Stampede the Renegades

Well Brahma fans, after last nights disappointing loss, the boys decided to play tonight.

The first period brought goals from Albert Bolush and Brittan Morris, while our defense kept the Renegades out of the net.

The second period saw Albert score again along with Dan Orsborn. Still the Renegades were held off.

The third period netted our first hat trick of the season with Albert putting the biscut in the basket for the third time.  A Goal from Ryan Pittman and 2 from Kevin Filthhaut made the final 8-0 Brahmas.

We hit the ice again tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 MST

Brahmas Sweep Tulsa

It was a very productive weekend for our Brahmas who took both games this weekend.

Saturday's game was a nail biter that went to OT. When neither team could find the net at the end of 5, we went to the shoot out. Anton Olsson stood out with 42 saves on the day and Kevin O'Donnell found the net for the game winner in the shoot out.

Sunday's game was a grinder, tied 1-1 at the end of the first. Tulsa came out in the second with something to prove slipping one past the goalie early in the second. Not to be outdone, Jordan Gnatowsky scored a huge goal with only 5 seconds left in the second to take us to the room tied 2-2. The third was all Brahmas with goals from Filthhault and Bolush for the 4-2 finish to the weekend.

Next weekend the Brahmas will take on the New Mexico Renegades in a 3 game series before we are off for a month.

Brahmas welcome five new players

Jeremy Kaunisto

It was a busy holiday break for the Junior A Brahmas, saying goodbye to three players and adding five to an already talented roster. First to leave the Brahmas was all-time leading scorer Albert Bolush, who left to play professionally in Finland. The Brahmas then traded forward Brian Barnes to the Park City Moose. Goaltender Garret Cheeseman returned home to Juneau, Alaska to begin college.

The Brahmas were able to add to their roster, filling the holes of the departing players with forwards Landyn Howze, Seth Ensor and Josh Gray, along with goaltender Zane Sampson. The Brahmas also welcomed the return of defenseman Jeremy Kaunisto who, along with Howze and Gray had been playing with the Osoyoos Coyotes in the KIJHL.

Howze is a Keller-native who Dallas Stars Selects Midget Major A in 2010-11. Sampson is very familiar with the Brahmas as well, having been the winning goaltender in the Brahmas opening playoff overtime loss to the Boulder Bison in 2010-11.

The Brahmas return to home ice Saturday, January 21 at 2 p.m. against the Dallas Snipers. Tickets are $5 at the door! Come out to cheer on and welcome the newest Brahmas!
